Athlete Spotlight: Anthony Kay

Fresh off his summer stint as a member of USA Baseball’s Collegiate National Team, junior pitcher Anthony Kay took some time after an open practice on Tuesday to talk with me about his life off the diamond.

What is your major?

Geography.

Why did you choose it?

I think it’s just interesting, kind of to see the world around you and how it is.

What is your favorite pre-game meal?

I don’t really have a pregame meal, but I’d say that pizza is my favorite meal.

If you could play another sport, what would you play? Why?

I’d say probably basketball, that’d be the most fun sport to play outside of baseball.

Who is your favorite artist?

I’m not really a big music person, so, I don’t really have a favorite one.

Favorite movie of all-time?

I’d probably say that my favorite is probably Billy Madison or Happy Gilmore.

Who is your favorite athlete?

My favorite all-time growing up was Andy Pettitte.

Your favorite class you’ve taken at UConn? Why?

That’s tough. I don’t really like class much…

Any pregame rituals? Explain.

Not really, just kind of try and stay relaxed as much as possible.

What’s your favorite moment in your sports career?

Winning the Long Island championship my senior year.

If you could travel anywhere, where would it be? Why?

Probably somewhere in Europe.

Twitter or Instagram? Why?

I don’t have a Twitter, so I’d have to go with Instagram.

Who is your team’s biggest rival? Why?

I’d probably say East Carolina, because we play them two times a year every year now.

Favorite thing to do while you aren’t playing your sport?

Probably video games.

Favorite TV show?

I just watched How I Met Your Mother on Netflix, like, binge-watched it, so I’d probably have to go with that.

Dream job? Why?

Be a baseball player.
