Drink of the Week: Spiked, spiced cider



To ring in the first day of fall, I chose a spiced cider recipe for the drink of the week. This recipe serves about six people. For our underage readers, just don’t add the brandy to the cider.

Ingredients include:

  • Five cups of apple cider
  • One cinnamon stick
  • One whole clove
  • One orange slice
  • One lemon slice
  • One-half cup of brandy
  • Six cinnamon sticks for garnish

Combine the apple cider, one cinnamon stick, one whole clove, the orange slice and the lemon slice in a medium saucepan then bring to a boil. Cover the pan, reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes. Then, strain the cider mixture through a sieve into a bowl and discard solids. Stir in brandy and serve warm. Garnish each glass with a cinnamon stick.
