College Choice, an independent organization dedicated to helping students pick the best college, has ranked the University of Connecticut number one for Connecticut online colleges.

“UConn’s extensive online program gives students the opportunity to still be integrated on campus while learning from the comfort of their own home,” College Choice said on their website.

College Choice takes quality, reputation, affordability, value and student satisfaction into consideration when ranking colleges, according to College Choice’s website.

UConn’s online courses can be accessed through the eCampus portal. Students are also given access to the UConn Library System and Google Apps, according to College Choice.

Yasmeen Dardona, a seventh-semester molecular and cell biology major, took Organic Chemistry 1 online.

“The professor was very supportive and very involved in the class,” Dardona said. “He videotaped lectures and sent out reminders about what assignments needed to be done.”

The university offered over 100 different courses last year, including math, English, several foreign languages, sciences and more, according to Peter Diplock, the eCampus Director.

Diplock credits the UConn faculty and the training and support put into designing online courses for the high ranking.

“The University has more than 25 graduate online degree programs taught by our core UConn faculty,” Diplock said.

While there are no undergraduate degree or certificate programs offered online, undergraduate students can take courses online, typically offered in the winter and summer, according to Diplock.

“The biggest benefit for students is the flexibility,” said Diplock. “In short, UConn online programs are known for their exceptional faculty and high quality students.”
