A shooting in Mansfield Tuesday night led to a suspect being airlifted to a hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound, state police said.

At approximately 7:30 p.m. Mansfield state troopers responded to a reported incident of a domestic disturbance involving a male with a firearm in a residence on Storrs Road, police said.

As troopers approached the scene, the suspect fired at them. The troopers fired back at the suspect, police said.

No police officers were shot but one did sustain a minor injury, police said.

State police detectives from the Western District Major Crime Squad are investigating the shooting at the request of the Hartford State’s Attorney Office, police said. The Connecticut State Police Professional Standards Unit will also conduct a separate administrative investigation of the incident.

Police said the troopers involved have been placed on administrative assignment pending the investigation.
