The UConn football team received 19 letters of intent from the 2018 recruiting class this week, kicking off the first year in which the new early signing period comes into effect.

“To know I have 19 guys locked in, it's the best Christmas present,” head coach Randy Edsall said. “Now you can go and relax.”

Schools are free to sign players to letters of intent from Wednesday, Dec. 20 to Friday, Dec. 22. UConn signed seven offensive players and 12 defensive players, and the Huskies will look to sign seven more players during the traditional signing period, Edsall said.

One of the flagship players in this year’s signing class is three-star quarterback Stephen Krajewski from Moultrie, Georgia. Krajewski is a 6-foot-4, 205 pound pro-style passer who threw for 2226 yards and 22 touchdowns in his senior season at Colquitt County High School, and held offers from Georgia State and Syracuse.

“We were only going to take one quarterback and we got the one we wanted,” Edsall said.

UConn also worked hard to keep the ninth ranked player in Connecticut, three-star Wilbur Cross defensive tackle Travis Jones, in state. Jones is a massive man, standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 365 pounds. Jones received offers from Rutgers, Boston College and Temple, but ultimately decided to stay home.

Other notable signees include linebacker Kevon Jones, who led East Hartford to the 2017 state playoffs; Jordan Morrison, an all-state defensive back out of Trenton, New Jersey; all-state linebacker Hunter Webb from Montoursville, Pennsylvania; and all-state running back Khyon Gillespie from Capitol Prep in Hartford.
