The Adventure Park at Storrs is once again offering a free shuttle to University of Connecticut students on Friday nights at Fairfield Way, according to Doug Southworth, the park’s Director of Client Relations. The bus will run beginning on September 1, at 6:30, 7:00 and 7:30 p.m. in front of the Student Union.
The Adventure Park offers rope climbing, zip lining, trails, bridge challenges and other courses, according to its website.
“It gives students a chance to do an outdoor activity,” Southworth said. “It’s good exercise, it’s bonding, it’s something different. It’s a unique experience.”
This is the second year that the Adventure Park is offering the shuttle, a service which began in fall 2016, Southworth said. The shuttle also ran for the Husky Weekend of Welcome this year.
“We ran it for six weeks last year,” Southworth said. “It was pretty successful. It started to create awareness of the Adventure Park.”
Southworth said that the park started using the shuttle as a way to connect students to the site because many students lacked their own method of transportation.
“We knew students didn’t have cars,” Southworth said. “We thought, ‘We have this huge university down the road, and there are students who want to go, but can’t’.”
The Adventure Park offers UConn students discount ticket prices, as well as giveaways on Friday nights to encourage students to come, Southworth said.
“It’s good for students to get off of campus,” Southworth said. “We know that students don’t have a lot of money.”
The park offers group discount rates, and student groups are welcome to use the shuttle if they want to visit the park for an outing or a team event, Southworth said.
The shuttle will be running for an indefinite amount of time for the fall, Southworth said. The park will be open from September 5 to November 12, according to the Adventure Park website.
