Most of you know me as that one photographer at the Daily Campus who was given permission to write things for some reason. As the only photographer in the roundtable, you can bet that one of my new year's resolutions is going to be about that. UConn has a lot of really cool communities, some small, some large. This year, one of my goals is to cover one of those small, relatively unknown groups and show the UConn community exactly what they do through a series of images. Everybody should get to have their story told, and I want to give people that chance.

2018 is also going to be the year that I, and probably a lot of people, get healthy. That means setting a goal of 20 pounds of weight loss. I’ll probably have to make it a point to cut back on the brewskies :( . Apparently, that might contribute a bit.

Last semester I had a bit of a weird start—I lost my voice for the entire first month, so basically, all of my first impressions were terrible. This semester, I’m going to take advantage of a working voice and actually talk to the people in my classes. I’d love to make some new friends and study buddies. I would also like to end my addiction to cookies for good. Using them as after dinner mints, despair medicine and snacks is probably not the best health-wise. Ideally, I’ll start using clementines and apples instead. Alternatively, I wouldn’t mind suddenly acquiring a magical metabolism where I never have to work out or eat healthy, and be able to continue my cookie habit indefinitely. Since all of these goals, especially the alternate goal, are completely obtainable, maybe I’ll also get to become the first person in the history of the world to stick to my New Year’s resolutions.

Last semester was the busiest I’ve ever been in my life; I don’t think I had a single day where I didn’t have something to do. I like being busy and I really like that I’m involved on campus, but to compensate for having so much to do I didn’t spend a lot of time taking care of myself or relaxing. That’s why my resolution is to give myself some “me time” every week. I want to give myself more time to do things I actually want to do instead of just things I have to do. Having time to unwind and relax will definitely improve my mood, stress levels and overall health. Whether it’s treating myself to a nice meal or just relaxing and using a face mask, I really want to put myself first. So basically, my main goal is to work on balancing work and personal time. Also, a 4.0 would be nice.

Marlese Lessing - News Editor

I don’t really like resolutions. I feel like they’re too easy to break. My goal for this semester, however, is to work on taking more classes outside of my major and to get into photography. I think it’s really important to be multiskilled as a modern journalist, and it’s something that I think will help me cover stories better and make me more marketable. Also, taking photos is awesome. My other goal for this year is to learn how to weld. UConn has classes on the basic principles of welding, and by heck, I’m going to learn them before I graduate.
