Women's Lacrosse: Huskies fall to JMU

The UConn lacrosse team fell to No. 8 James Madison on Saturday 21-9.

The Huskies are now 1-2 on the season. JMU is 3-0 on the season.

The game was played at the US Lacrosse Headquarters; a neutral site.

This was the Huskies second game against a Top 10 opponent. They are now 0-2 against Top 10 ranked teams.

Senior Grace Nolan scored five points in the match. Freshman Sydney Watson had seven draw controls and one assist. Senior Cassie Ekstrom led in turnovers for the third straight game.

In the beginning of the game the Huskies were able to keep it close with JMU. The score in the first five minutes was 2-2. JMU, however, went on a 5-1 scoring run from which the Huskies were never able to recover.

At halftime the Huskies were down to JMU 10-4.

JMU scored eight of the last 11 goals.

At the end of the game Nolan had four goals and junior Caitlin Leary scored three goals. Four different Huskies recorded assists.

UConn’s goalkeeper Grace Beshlian recorded nine saves.

The last time UConn played JMU, the game was much closer with UConn losing 11-12.

The Huskies play next on Feb. 23 versus Cal at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex. The game is scheduled to begin  at 3 p.m.
