The UConn women’s lacrosse team will be back home for their second conference matchup against the Temple Owls (3-8, 0-1 The American). As the Huskies (2-10, 0-1 The American) come off of their 18-9 loss against Delaware, a non-conference game, they will be returning to conference play on Saturday.
The matchup between the Owls and the Huskies will be a game worth watching. Each team is seeking their first conference win, as both teams are currently 0-1 in conference play.
The Huskies are coming off a tough loss against a ranked opponent, Dartmouth, who interrupted their conference schedule. UConn allowed Dartmouth to go on runs, which is something that can’t be allowed with the Owls if the Huskies would like to be successful in their final games of the season.
On the flip side, Temple is also coming off of a loss from a ranked conference opponent, No. 17 Florida State, in which the game ended 15-8. Temple was down one point at the half, but couldn’t hold on because Florida State came out of halftime with vengeance, allowing the Owls to score three to Florida’s nine goals.
UConn’s seniors, and Caitlin Leary in particular, are longing for another win. Leary comes out with strong competitiveness and gives all she has for her team. Freshman Lia LePrise and sophomore Stephanie Palmucci are constantly proving their abilities on the field. If they aren’t finding their teammates and getting the assist, they’re finding a way to score, Palmucci in particular.
The Huskies have explained time after time that they have what it takes, but it’s just a matter of putting all of the pieces together. These two teams are of similar status, so it’s predicted to be a great game between the two. Whether the Huskies manage to figure out their missing pieces or the Owls muster up the chance to feel the sense of victory from four games ago, it’ll surely be a game to put on your schedule.
