The first annual University of Connecticut Invitational Turtle Tournament was set to be held in April 1965, complete with an entry from then-President Homer Babbidge.
Babbidge’s turtle was called The Hustler and was managed by experienced turtle Lord Alfred.
All houses on campus were encouraged to participate in the tournament, and various colleges in the Northeast were invited to participate as well.
Raffle tickets were available for sale at the event, and the winning students were guaranteed by the Office of the Registrar the complete choice of their preferred class schedule, including teachers, sections and times.
