A few weeks ago, I was running late to class after a long traffic jam on my way to campus. I parked in the garage across the street from Gampel Pavilion and slow-jogged my way past the Student Union on my way. As I walked down Fairfield Way, I noticed a pink and blue van advertising free ultrasounds and STD screenings.

Opinion: The Human Rights Protections Act SB 23 infringes upon human rights

On April 11, Ohio passed one of the most restrictive abortion laws in the U.S. With just one stroke of his pen, Gov. Mike DeWine took away the rights of women all over Ohio, creating a new precedent that will restrict women everywhere.

This law is known as the “heartbeat bill” as it bans abortions that occur after about six weeks, as this is approximately when the fetal heartbeat can be detected. This is very early on in a pregnancy.

The Supreme Court justices voted with a 5-4 majority, with Chief Justice Roberts and Justices Ginsburg, Kagan, Sotomayor and Breyer opposing the enactment of the law. Justices Thomas, Alito, Gorsuch and Kavanaugh would have been in favor of the law, had it been enacted.
