As virtually everyone on the planet has heard, last week the famous historical landmark, the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, partially burned down. The fire, which burned for hours before ultimately being extinguished by Parisian firefighters, destroyed the cathedral’s iconic spire along with some of the relics inside. Luckily, as of Tuesday, April 16, only one firefighter was reported being seriously injured by the flames. All others had only minor injuries. Miraculously, no one was killed.
The Kansas State Wildcats have been one of the biggest surprises in college basketball this year, and they just recently became ranked after beating four ranked opponents in a row, including the perennial Big 12 champion Kansas Jayhawks. They are now in first place in the Big 12 with a 9-2 conference record.
The No. 1 UConn women’s basketball team thrived in the underdog role against then No. 1 Notre Dame Sunday afternoon. UConn (7-0) will look to ride this momentum into Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Saint Louis (4-4) in the Chaifetz Arena. The Billikens have faced two American Conference teams, Cincinnati and Tulsa, and dropped each game.
The last time UConn played against Notre Dame, it ended in devastation. The Final Four was the scene of a crushing defeat against the eventual National Champion Fighting Irish. It was the night that Arike Ogunbowale channeled her “mamba mentality” to step back and fire the game-winning shot against the Huskies to send UConn packing.
