The increase in student fees due to the new rec center was first agreed upon in 2013, well before most current students at UConn were members of the university.
One of the social changes Lamont proposed is raising the age for purchasing tobacco and vaping products to 21. While many have come out in support of this move in regard to traditional cigarettes, whose dangerous health risks are extremely well-documented, opinions over raising the vaping age have been more mixed.
According to UConn spokesperson Stephanie Reitz, “Living on-campus for the first year has been shown at universities nationwide to enhance students experience, giving them what we call wrap-around support academically and socially.”
In March, the University of Connecticut fired men’s basketball coach Kevin Ollie “for cause” in response to Ollie’s violation NCAA rules. Ollie’s legal team, however, believes the breakup was a result of something entirely more nefarious.
“In addition to terminating his employment without just cause in violation of the collective bargaining agreement, (UConn) has discriminated against (Ollie) on the basis of his race and color in violation of the federal state law”
