The Ride to Nationals
MARCH 25, 2015
UConn fielded its first polo team in 1969. Since then, the men's and women's programs have won a combined 10 National Championships at the club level. The women's team is ranked in the top three in the country. But unlike men's or women's basketball, teams that draw sellout crowds from across Connecticut, the polo team plays its games in front of a handful of spectators at Horsebarn Hill Arena.
The team, coached by volunteer Jon Nicholson, is fueled by a single unifying principle: a love of the game. And just like any other UConn team, the polo program's goal is simple: win a National Championship.
A La Carte

Lizzie Searing has been bringing her food truck to UConn for 24 years. She started her company, Taking Care of Tummies LLC, in the early-'90s after leaving her job as a food runner at the Hartford Civic Center. She now operates a catering business out of her kitchen in downtown Coventry, Conn.
Searing's food truck, Lizzie's Curbside, has become an institution at UConn, parking every morning between the Jamie Homero Arjona and Henry Ruthven Monteith Buildings. While her business has grown, Searing has maintained strong ties to her customers and to the university. Find out why Searing enjoys the work she does, and why UConn and its students are so important to her.
