The UConn women’s soccer team pulled off their most exciting win of the season so far in their final out-of-conference game. The Huskies made a trip upstream to UMass Lowell, but it was the River Hawks who were left without a paddle after the 2-1 overtime win for UConn.
ALBANY – The past two national champions, UConn and South Carolina, faced off Monday night for a chance to go to the Final Four. Both women’s basketball programs have been dominant over the past several years, but this night belonged to UConn, as the Huskies annihilated the Gamecocks in a 94-65 victory.
The first time the UConn women’s basketball team faced in-state rival Quinnipiac, the 1998 Huskies came away with a 97-point victory that remains the program record 20 years later. When the two teams met for the second time Monday night in the NCAA Tournament, UConn faced a much tougher test but came away with a 71-46 win.
Last time SMU (5-6-3) and UConn (5-6-3) got together it was here at Joseph J. Morrone for the 2016 American Conference Championship, a game UConn won 1-0 delivering them dual conference championships and an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
The time before that was when the Mustangs gave the Huskies their lone quasi-hiccup, a 0-0 double-overtime at SMU, in the conference regular season. Last year the two were fierce NCAA tournament teams.
