The 2019-2020 academic year will be the first at the University of Connecticut for new UConn Foundation President Scott M. Roberts. Roberts comes to UConn from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas where he served as president of the UNLV Foundation and vice president for philanthropy and alumni engagement, according to a recent press release.
As she prepares to leave for a faculty position at the Stamford campus, University of Connecticut president Susan Herbst is pushing for expansions to the satellite, including four new full degree programs, new faculty and increased administrative support.
At the outset of her committee’s development, Herbst envisioned “a permanent, effective strategy to further enhance a climate at UConn that fosters healthy argument, debate and dialogue – especially among those with differing views, beliefs, experiences and/or philosophies.”
As we are all well aware, recently there has been a major onslaught of allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct against many prominent celebrities and politicians. What seemed to start with the scandal regarding Harvey Weinstein quickly escalated to many other people being empowered and coming forward to share their own stories of mistreatment.
Nearly 48 hours after Gateway Pundit commentator Lucian Wintrich was arrested at an event hosted by the University of Connecticut’s College Republicans, UConn President Susan Herbst responded, releasing a statement to the university in an email Thursday evening.
“The core principals [sic] of our institution are rooted in intellectual pursuits based on reason, thoughtful debate, and free and open argument. No aspect of what took place on Tuesday reflected this,” Herbst said.
Today is the final day University of Connecticut students can submit an application to “Lead the Pack,” which gives them the opportunity to shadow President Susan Herbst.
Interested students must submit a résumé and cover letter tailored to the job description to HuskyCareerLink by 5 p.m. today, according to the Center for Career Development website.
