Thirsty Thursday: Boozy gingerbread eggnog

Think of this as a boozy treat to get you through exams and prepare for the holidays. (Thirsty Thursday/The Daily Campus)

The best thing about the fall semester is that as soon as finals end, the holiday season can officially begin. The stress of exams might make you want to end each night with a drink, but it can also be nice to sip on something that reminds you that the holidays are fast approaching. For our final Thirsty Thursday of the semester, we hoped to combine these two factors with our Boozy Gingerbread Eggnog. At least that way, you can still remain festive while you suffer.

Ingredients

  • Five ounces of eggnog
  • Four ounces of rum
  • One ounce of fireball
  • Two ounces of vodka
  • Three teaspoons of molasses
  • Dash of nutmeg

Garnish

  • Half a teaspoon of cinnamon
  • Two teaspoons of sugar
  • Dash of nutmeg
  • Whipped cream

Combine the cinnamon and sugar and wet the glass. Rim the glass with the cinnamon sugar mixture. In a shaker, combine the eggnog, rum, fireball, vodka, molasses and nutmeg over ice. Shake well, especially since the molasses tends to stick to the bottom. Pour the drink into the glass you rimmed with the cinnamon sugar mixture. Top off with the whipped cream and a dash of nutmeg.

First impressions, this drink is very strong—which makes perfect sense as there is more alcohol than eggnog in our Boozy Gingerbread Eggnog. The whipped cream topping is absolutely essential in this drink, as it helps balance out the alcohol. Despite being strong, this drink is absolutely delicious. The various liquors in this drink work really well with the eggnog, and the cinnamon sugar rim adds just the right amount of sweetness. If you are someone who doesn’t always want their drinks to taste too boozy, feel free to put more eggnog and cut back on the rum a little.
