Not a fan of the Super Bowl? Tune in to these alternative programs and halftime specials

If you don’t want to watch this year’s Super Bowl, or want to switch between channels during the game, we’ve got you covered with what else is on.

On Super Sunday, WFSB Channel 3 sister station The Wax (local WWAX Hartford channel 27) will be broadcasting sports analysis shows in the morning, then Connecticut College Sports replays at 12 noon. These replays showcase recent games from in-state college athletic teams, including many UConn sports, Sacred Heart University basketball and hockey and Quinnipiac University hockey. At 6 p.m., they’ll follow-up with an episode of “CT 24 with Eric Parker,” Channel 3’s weekly state public affairs program.

Just as the Big Game is getting underway at 6:30 p.m., The Wax will be broadcasting WFSB’s regular Eyewitness News live newscast. “Opry Live” follows with music from country and western artists in Nashville, Tennessee at 7 p.m.

Specialty channel Animal Planet (Huskyvision channel 38) will broadcast “The Puppy Bowl XX” content all day, starting at 2 p.m. The long-running annual broadcast helps raise awareness of animal adoption. Enjoy specials focused on past Puppy Bowl champions, segments “live from the training camp,” and the showdown starting at 6 p.m. This year, Team Ruff and Team Fluff will compete to win the “Lombarky” trophy in this cuddle-friendly Super Bowl spoof.
