A recent purchase at a Windham McDonald’s resulted in the arrest of 22-year-old Makayla Joann Poirier-Vaughter, of Uncasville, Connecticut. Poirier-Vaughter was arrested on Oct. 14 on three separate charges of sixth-degree larceny, possessing receipts from illegal use of a credit card and third-degree identity theft.
In the state of Connecticut, sixth-degree larceny is theft of goods whose values total less than $500.
“The investigation began on Sept. 22, when a resident of Mansfield City Road reported that his vehicle had been broken into and his wallet was taken,” according to the news website Patch. “Images from a home surveillance system showed a woman breaking into the vehicle at 4:24 a.m.”
According to Patch, the individual’s debit card began processing transactions at multiple locations, including the Windham McDonald’s. State police matched the security footage to footage of the original theft, and Patch noted “It showed a woman similar to the one on the home surveillance system in a Lincoln pickup up food and the name on the McDonald’s App for that purchase was noted as ‘Makayla,’ according to a warrant.”
Police located Poirier-Vaughter’s Lincoln and found a McDonald’s receipt with the name “Makayla” in the car, leading to her arrest.
Poirier-Vaughter was released on a $50,000 court-set bond according to her arrest report and appeared in Rockville Superior Court on Oct. 28.
