We’ve made it to the final push of the semester, Huskies! Classes are wrapping up today as students at the University of Connecticut buckle down to study for final exams and work on those dreaded research papers that we all hold near and dear to our hearts. Many students are feeling stressed at this last onslaught of work before heading home for a long month off and in dire need of a break. What better way to do so than by getting tossed around in the best mosh pits the Connecticut music scene has to offer? For those wanting for a break, look no further than these shows happening in the Nutmeg State this weekend.

Friday, 12/6: Holding Cell “Emo Night” at Howard’s Bookstore – Torrington
For all the emo fans out there looking for some stress relief from finals, DIY booking agency Holding Cell has exactly what you’re looking for with their “Emo Night” show on Friday, Dec. 6 at Howard’s Bookstore in Torrington, Conn. The show features a stacked five-band lineup of some of the best and most energetic emo bands Connecticut has to offer, highlighted by Jaded in Paradise, a four-piece punk band that has made regular appearances in the basements of Storrs. The rest of the bill features Noiseman and The Squids, No Clue, Girlsona and Shed Life. Doors open at 6 p.m., music starts at 7 p.m. and admission is $10. All ages are welcome to attend.
Friday, 12/6: 10selden “Women’s Music Showcase” – Woodbridge
There’s no shortage of talented female artists in the Connecticut music scene, and some of the best voices in the scene will be on display at the “Women’s Music Showcase” hosted at 10selden in Woodbridge, Conn., on Friday, Dec. 6. The bill features a lineup of seven female singer-songwriters from across the state, including some up-and-coming names. The show will feature performances from Abigail Rickevicius, Nada But Vibes, Sage Lynn, Sweetie Belle, Vanity Grime, Erin Rocc and Aly West. This is a great chance to check out some great new artists as well as a fantastic showcase of the diverse music scene. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., music starts at 6 p.m. and tickets are $15.
Saturday, 12/7: 10selden “Blizzard Bash!” – Woodbridge

After a stacked lineup the night before, 10selden is jumping back into action the next afternoon with its “Blizzard Bash!” show. The show is being hosted by the Live Concert and Promotion Team of the University of New Haven as a benefit show for The Animal Haven shelter in North Haven, Conn. The four-band lineup features Scrt Agnt, No Rush, Shell Games and Cat Crash, the latter of which has made multiple appearances in Storrs this semester. Doors open at 12:30 p.m., music starts at 1 p.m. and tickets are $15. All proceeds will go to The Animal Haven. Additionally, a canned food and toy drive will be held at the show.
