The UConn football team received their first AP Top 25 vote since 2010 in the most recent edition of the poll.
During week 13, UConn received one vote for the AP poll Top 25. The program’s last time in the AP poll was the final top 25 poll of 2010 when they received eight votes.
One of the major reasons for the recent success is Jim Mora, who took over the Huskies head coaching job in 2022.
Since 2022, Mora has transformed a team that won only 10 games from 2016-2020 into a team that has won 26 games in four years.
Mora led UConn to a 6-7 record and a bowl loss to Marshall in 2022, 3-9 record in 2023, 9-4 record and a bowl win versus North Carolina in 2024 and an 8-3 record with two games left in the season in 2025.
Another reason for the great season this year is quarterback Joe Fagnano, who has 2,995 passing yards, 25 touchdowns and only one interception.
Fagnano has thrown three or more touchdown passes in a game six times including a five-game stretch vs Duke, UAB, Rice, Boston College and FIU.

Another reason for UConn’s success is wide receiver Skyler Bell, who has 93 receptions, 1,151 yards and 13 touchdowns on the season
Bell leads the nation in receptions and receiving touchdowns and is second in receiving yards.
Running back Cam Edwards has also been stellar, rushing for 1,031 yards and 12 touchdowns this season.
Defensively, Bryun Parham has shined with 108 tackles, 10.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception this year.
Even though UConn only received one vote in the week 13 poll and did not make the Top 25, UConn has made the ranking six different times including four weeks in a row in 2007.
The first instance of UConn making the top 25 was in the 2007 week nine polls when they were 7-1 and No.16 in the rankings.
That season they were also ranked in weeks 10 to 12. The program maintained the No. 16 spot in week 10, fell to No. 25 in week 11 and climbed back up to No. 20 in week 12. They fell out of the rankings after losing to West Virginia 21-66.
Following 2007, the Huskies also made the Top 25 in week six in 2008 when UConn started the season 5-0 and sat No. 24 in the poll. They got knocked out of the rankings the following week after a 38-12 loss to North Carolina.
The final instance of UConn making the top 25 is week 14 of the 2010 season when UConn sat at 8-4 and No. 25 in the AP Top 25 poll. UConn got knocked out of the poll after losing to Oklahoma 48-20 in the Fiesta Bowl.
