Singer Leigh-Anne from the girl group Little Mix released her debut album, “My Ego Told Me To,” on Friday, Feb. 20. The album is noton any featured lists on iTunes or Spotify. However, it’s still enjoyable. The album has 15 songs. Some have similar sounds and others are more distinct.

The album opens with “Look into My Eyes,” which is vastly different from the other songs. The song contains electric beats and pulses that create a futuristic mood. It tells listeners to stand up for themselves and to not let others define who they are.
The second song, “Dead and Gone,” has a modern pop style that portrays killing off an older version of yourself. The song has powerful instrumentals and vocals, and at the two-minute mark, the lyrics talk about rebirth.
“Revival” has elements of the two previous songs. The background music sounds a lot like “Dead and Gone,” and the theme relates to “Look into My Eyes.” The tone and pitch of the song remain the same throughout, making it sound more like a speech. The vocals are very bold, and they depict serious messages about broken promises and being treated like a disposable person.
The next four songs have very similar themes and music styles. All four songs talk about romance or attractions between two or more people and relationship conflicts. “Been a Minute” and “Most Wanted” have percussive and high-energy sounds that make them sound like club music. “Goodbye Goodmorning” sounds a little like “Been a Minute,” and “Burning Up” has distant background vocals that appear in some parts of the song. It also features Rvssian and Valiant as co-artists.
“Best Version of Me” is one of my favorite songs on the album. It is party music, and it describes trying to find the best version ofyourself while dealing with conflicting thoughts and judgment. The song can be relatable to many of its listeners since many people try to be the best version of themselves.
“Me Minus U” is a little different from the songs previously described. It is soft rock with beautiful vocals that are consistent throughout the entirety of it. The song centers nostalgia and change.

“Sunrise” doesn’t contain much in terms of messages. It’s just another percussive song that doesn’t vary in vocals, rhythms or background music.
“You ARE a Star” is another one of my favorites. It’s very unique because it’s not just a song. It’s a motivational speech that inspires listeners to never give up and to work hard to accomplish every single goal they have. It’s a nice touch to the album, given the rough times many people currently face.
“FREE” and “Tight Up Skirt” are interesting in terms of style. They have reggae vibes that make them sound like Caribbean pop music. “FREE” describes fighting back and its importance in life. “Tight Up Skirt,” meanwhile, is just another song about romance and attraction.
“Talk to me nice” is also a song that also talks about romance. It describes feeling attracted to someone talking nicely to you. The song has a modern pop sound with emotional vocals and music at the beginning.
The final song, “Heaven,” ends the album on a lovely note. The song has reggae tones, and it portrays feeling close to heaven. It ends with Leigh-Anne’s twin daughters’ voices, making the end of the album heartwarming.
The album was mostly great to listen to. However, I wanted more from it. The majority of the songs had no bridges, and most of them were less than three minutes long.
