Amazon’s hit animated series “Invincible” returned to streaming on March 18, 2026. The three-episode premiere kicked off the show’s fourth season, continuing to follow the tumultuous life of its titular superhero.
“Invincible” first arrived to streaming in 2021, adapting the comic series of the same name by Robert Kirkman. Season one was an unexpected hit, with its more mature depiction of superheroes helping to revitalize the waning genre. Moreover, the series’ success also contributed to the increasing popularity of adult-oriented animation throughout the 2020s. Now, five years after that initial premiere, the show is still a juggernaut in today’s culture, maintaining its popularity and continuing to spawn a tsunami of memes.
The newest episodes kick off from season three’s climatic showdown between Invincible and the supervillain, Conquest. Now cemented as Earth’s most powerful superhero, Invincible is struggling with the mental toll of his many battles. All the while, far from Earth, his father, the disgraced superhero Omni-Man, is helping gather allies to prepare for a galactic war with the franchise’s main antagonists: the Viltrum Empire.
Overall, this season is shaping up to potentially be the best yet, promising to further the series’ long running plotlines while also offering some new surprises.

In particular, the newest episodes do an excellent job of continuing to evolve its core cast of characters. The two biggest examples of course being Invincible and Omni-Man, who have both grown substantially from when they were introduced. The show uses both to explore its primary themes, with the current season placing an emphasis on the trauma both have experienced. Thus far, the season is at its best when it delves into how workingthrough trauma can inspire both growth and regression. This is especially the case with Invincible himself — while at first his struggles inspired him to be better than those around him, his failure to properly cope with his pain is slowly leading him down a darker path.
While the newest season is great at upping the stakes and developing existing plot threads, it is not perfect. The biggest critique would have to be its animation, which often can feel stiff and undynamic. It is not hard to spot characters in the background frequently being drawn in their basic model sheet poses, or characters even appearing off-model at certain points. While the imperfections are understandable — animation is extremely complicated and very, very expensive — they do ultimately take away from the show’s quality. That said, the series is very fluid when it needs to be, like during action scenes or important character moments. Moreover, last season could feel fairly stilted throughout its run, only to end with one of the most impressive action scenes in the history of western animation, so it is more than possible that the show is saving its animation budget for more important moments later in the season.
Thus far, Invincible season four is solid, but it does have some areas in which it could improve. However, if its later episodes deliver in the same vein of season three’s incredible climax — which is more than likely considering the comic storyline this season aims to adapt — this season could go down as the greatest yet.
All in all, season four of Invincible is a must watch for existing fans. For new viewers — and those only familiar with the memes — now is also a great time to start watching.
Invincible is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video, with new episodes being aired weekly on Wednesdays.
