After three games against Xavier this past weekend, UConn will play Northeastern in Boston, Mass. on Tuesday.

Hook C secured wins in the first two games against Xavier, 3-1 and 8-0, but dropped the final game 6-1. That three-game stretch brings UConn’s record to 14-15 overall and 2-1 in Big East play.

On Friday, junior lefty Charlie West pitched just under seven innings, allowing only three hits, four walks and no runs for his third win of the year. UConn opened the scoring on a wild pitch in the fourth inning while adding two more runs off a throwing error and an RBI by junior Maddix Dalena.

Xavier got a consolation run at the top of the ninth inning from sophomore outfielder Jorge Valdes, but that was all Xavier could do on the day.

On Saturday, UConn put eight runs past Xavier while allowing none by sophomore starting pitcher Cayden Suchy and junior relief pitcher Joe Talarico. The Hook C hit three home runs during the Saturday game.

Sophomores first baseman Jackson Marshall and infielder Evan Menzel started the scoring barrage, each hitting a home run to right field in the second inning. In the eighth inning, junior outfielder Nater Wachter homered to right field to field to bring in UConn’s final run.

Finally, on Sunday, UConn lost 6-1 after juniors Oliver Pudvar and Charlie Hale each allowed two earned runs during their outing. Xavier’s other two runs came unearned in the eighth inning.

Among pitchers with at least 10 innings, graduate Austin Trumpour has the lowest earned run average with a 1.46 ERA in five appearances and 12.1 innings pitched.

Junior outfielder Chris Polemeni leads the team in batting average, having a .374 AVG. Sophomore first baseman Marshall is not far behind with a .357 AVG. Jackson also leads the team in RBIs with 22 and Wachter is close behind with 21. Finally, Marshall leads the team in home runs with eight on the season.

Northeastern enters this matchup with a 14-12 overall record and an 8-4 record in NCAA play. Northeastern is coming off a series they would like to forget, losing two out of their three matchups with Hofstra University. Two of their three matchups with Hofstra were high-scoring games with all three being won by just one run.

Redshirt-senior outfielder Harrison Feinberg leads the team in batting average with a .317 AVG, putting 32 balls into play out of 101 at-bats. Feinberg also leads the team in home runs with five and RBIs with 26 this season.

Redshirt junior Robbie O’Connor leads Northeastern with four wins in six appearances while senior Lic Rising leads pitchers with at least 10 innings with a 2.87 ERA.

In all-time matchups, UConn is on top with a 59-25-1 record against Northeastern. UConn also has a 20-5 away record. Despite the great all-time and away record, the Hook C are currently on a six-game losing streak to Northeastern with their last matchup on May 13, 2025, ending 7-1 at Elliott Ballpark.

The teams are set to play at the Friedman Diamond in Boston, Mass. on Tuesday, March 31. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m. and viewers can stream the game on FloCollege and MIXLR Radio.
