The University of Connecticut plans to build a $100 million recreation facility by 2019. The UConn Department of Recreational services created the Student Recreation Advisory Committee as part of this process.
The Student Recreation Advisory Committee will advise the UConn Department of Recreation Services regarding the “services, spaces and amenities the committee feels would best meet the needs of students,” according to the UConn Recreation website.
The Student Recreation Advisory Committee is on the lookout for four new members this semester. Rachel Conboy, president of UConn Student Government, announced the openings in an email to the student body on Monday.
Four of the committee’s 12 spots are open to undergraduate students. The UConn Student Government (USG) is tasked with the application and strives to appoint a “diverse committee,” Conboy wrote.
“There are no guidelines or specific qualifications for applicants,” Conboy said, “Our hope is to have students that bring a wide range of perspectives. This facility is going to be really important and very expensive, so we want to be sure it is good for everybody.”
Members of the Student Recreation Advisory Committee will sit in on university interviews with potential architectural firms and will take field trips to recreational facilities at multiple other college campuses over the next year.
Letters of interest must be sent in to USG by Oct. 2. Students are welcome to sit in on committee meetings whether or not they are selected.
