Football routs UCF to win “The Conflict”
The UConn football team picked up their first conference win of the season against Central Florida on Saturday. Arkeel Newsome and Bryant Shirreffs shined for the Huskies in the 40-13 victory. Dan Madigan of The Daily Campus wrote all you need to know about the ConFLiCT.
Maya Moore nails game-winner in WNBA finals
Former UConn women’s basketball star and WNBA all-star Maya Moore hit a three at the buzzer on Friday to give her Minnesota Lynx a 2-1 series lead over the Indiana Fever in the WNBA Finals. With 1.7 seconds on the clock and the game tied at 77, the Lynx inbounded the ball to Moore at the top of the three-point arc. Moore shook her defender with a pump-fake and knocked it down.
Kemba Walker joins Jordan Brand
Kemba Walker is going to be wearing some different kicks for the Charlotte Hornets this season. The former UConn basketball star and 2011 national champion announced that he has left Under Armour for a new deal with Jordan Brand. The Hornets are owned by Michael Jordan himself, so this move has probably been a long time coming.
Springer shines in ALDS with Astros
UConn baseball alum George Springer is making noise in the postseason for the Houston Astros. Springer led the way as the Astros took Game 1 against the Royals on the road Thursday. The right fielder went 2-4 with a walk, a home run, and two runs scored. The Royals evened the series in Game 2 and the two teams face off in Houston at 4:10 Sunday.
UConn recruit Durham injured once again
Top-40 prospect and UConn basketball commit Juwan Durham tore his ACL for a second time this year and will miss his senior high school season. The 6-foot-11 forward tore his left ACL less than a year after tearing his right ACL in the Florida state playoffs. Read more about Durham and the Class of 2016 recruits in the Hartford Courant.
Randy Edsall fired by Maryland
Former UConn football head coach Randy Edsall has been fired from his position as head coach at Maryland. Edsall’s Terrapins are 2-4 this season and 22-34 in Edsall’s past five years as head coach. Offensive coordinator Mike Locksley is set to take over as interim head coach.
