Ryan Boatright signed by Pistons
It didn’t take Ryan Boatright to find a new NBA team. Just days after being waived by the New Jersey Nets, Boatright agreed to terms with the Detroit Pistons, where he reunites with former UConn teammate Andre Drummond. Boatright is expected to be waived by the Pistons when the roster size reduces to 15 players, but once he clears waivers, the plan is to reassign him to the Pistons’ D-League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Drive.
Women’s soccer clinches American title
For the first time in more than a decade, the UConn women’s soccer team are regular season conference champions. The Huskies clinched the American Athletic Conference crown following South Florida’s defeat to Central Florida on Friday. No. 11 UConn finally lifted the trophy on Senior Day, where they defeated SMU 2-1. The Huskies head into next week’s conference tournament as the No. 1 seed.
Field hockey wins Big East title
Women’s soccer wasn’t the only team who clinched a conference title over the weekend. The field hockey team defeated Providence 8-0 to win the title outright for the third straight year. The Huskies (16-0, 4-0), who are in pursuit of their third straight national championship, have outscored their opponents 100-5 on the season.
Men’s hockey drops Hockey East opener
The men’s hockey team opened up Hockey East play against No. 8 Boston University on Saturday. Despite a pair of goals from freshman Max Letunov, the Huskies dropped a tight 4-2 contest at Agganis Arena. The Terriers come to Hartford on Tuesday to complete the home-and-home series.
