“Urinetown,” a Page to Stage production coming to the Student Union Theater this weekend, is a musical proud of its own oddity. It takes the human experiences of love, loss and pressure on your bladder and blows them up to epic proportions; then it adds music!
“It’s a satire so those that come from a background of musicals will see nods here and there,” said director Alli Dalusio. “But it’s got other things too, from the punny to the crude.”
Page to Stage, the troupe presenting “Urinetown,” has previously produced “Into the Woods,” and an original show entitled “How to Be a Successful Villain.” Dalusio said that they reach out and welcome people interested in all elements of theater.
“Urinetown” provides a creative premise, quirky bunch of characters and delightfully offbeat music with plenty of room for creative license. Page to Stage adds their own personal spin to a musical that takes pleasure in the occasional charmingly offensive onstage, simulated urination. It’s well suited to a college troupe and college audience.
Page to Stage’s productions of “Urinetown” will run 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, and 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 8, both in the Student Union Theater. Be sure to use the nearest restroom beforehand or all of the urination talk will drive you mad.
