The University of Connecticut’s Storrs campus wireless internet service went quiet on Tuesday afternoon when both of its wi-fi connections, UCONN-SECURE and UCONN-GUEST, stopped working.

The outage lasted about an hour and there were other disruptions in the stability of the wi-fi leading up to and after the outage.

UITS has been working with the university’s service vendor to fix issues within the central controllers that run all of the wi-fi access points across campus.

Updates were planned for the central controllers that would have taken place before dawn this morning to avoid disrupting students’ internet access.

However, the updates to the code had to be carried out yesterday, earlier than expected, after the controllers destabilized and the wi-fi stopped working completely.

“We will continue to work with our vendor and monitor the situation,” UConn spokeswoman Stephanie Reitz said.
