Green Party presidential nominee Jill Stein will speak at Windham Town Hall in Willimantic at 6 p.m. on Thursday, according to a press release from Stein’s campaign.
Some of Stein’s central platforms are action on climate change, ending poverty and criminal justice reform, but this particular press release focused on student debt.
“Stein says that students and youth are the ones that we must support in building a more just future in our country,” reads the press release from Green Party coordinator Cora Santaguida. “If all the 43 million persons with student debt voted for the only candidate that wanted to cancel student debt, Dr. Stein could win the election with a voting plurality.”
Stein previously ran for president on the Green party ticket in 2012, when she took .36 percent of votes cast in the general election.
For the 2016 election, Stein is a named candidate on the ballot in 48 of the 50 states, including Connecticut.
In early September, Stein made headlines when a warrant was issued for her arrest during a protest at the Dakota Access pipeline, according to an AP report. Stein allegedly spray-painted construction equipment.
