Hartford to host 2019 March Madness, Rentschler Field gets 2021 men’s lacrosse title game

The NCAA made a host of postseason scheduling announcements Tuesday, including the announcement that the first and second rounds of the 2019 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament will be held at the XL Center in Hartford.

UConn will serve as the host university for these games, to be played on March 21 and 23, 2019, and is not eligible to play in them should the Huskies secure a tournament bid.

UConn last hosted first and second round games at the XL Center in 1998, after hosting in 1983, 1985, 1988 and 1990.

The XL Center was not the only UConn sporting venue to nab NCAA postseason gamea Tuesday, as Rentschler Field was announced as the host of the 2021 and 2022 NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Championships, as well as a quarterfinal game in 2019.

Fairfield will serve as the host school at Rentschler Field.

Bridgeport’s Webster Bank Arena landed the East Regionals of the 2018 NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament. Yale and Fairfield will serve as the host schools for those games.
