Despite college dining hall food having a bad reputation, the food here at UConn can actually be pretty delicious. Even so, no matter how good it can be, it’s still a dining hall and every once in awhile you’re gonna crave something else. Luckily there are many affordable and tasty places to eat within walking distance from campus that every UConn student should know about. Keep reading for 8 of the best non-dining hall food options around Storrs!

Oriental Cafe

My personal favorite on this list, Oriental Cafe is a Chinese restaurant on Storrs Road in between Storrs Center and Price Chopper. The menu includes many classic entrees such as fried rice, lo mein, tempura and a large selection of sushi. The food is delicious and affordable. You can dine in or order take out.

Blaze Pizza

Located in Storrs Center, Blaze is like the Subway of Pizza. For about $8 you can customize your own personal-sized pizza, including sauce, cheese and toppings, or choose from 9 signature pizzas. You watch as they assemble your pizza and then fire it, having it ready to eat within a few minutes.

D.P. Dough

If you’re looking for quality food to be delivered to your dorm, look no further than D.P. Dough. The most prominent thing on their menu is calzones- there are more than 15 options fulfilling every craving from meat to cheese to veggie. They also offer tater tots, wings, and breadsticks. There is nothing quite like a hot calzone being delivered to your door when you’re in the mood. You can order online or call in, and it’s open until 3 a.m. weekdays and 4 a.m. weekends.

Love Art Sushi

One of the more trendy places around campus, Love Art Sushi, located in Storrs Center, offers sushi bowls and bubble tea. You are able to choose all of the ingredients that go into your bowl, making it personalized. It is a super healthy and fresh option.

Wings Over Storrs

No UConn food list would be complete without Wings Over, the best chicken wings around campus. Another great delivery option, Wings Over is open until 1 a.m. weekdays and 3 a.m. weekends. Offering both regular and boneless wings, you can choose between buffalo, barbeque, teriyaki, dry rubs and several other flavors. You can also order a combo that comes with fries or onion rings.

Insomnia Cookies

If you’re in the mood for dessert, look no further than Insomnia. You can experience the homey feeling of warm cookies right from the oven in your very own dorm room- Insomnia delivers and is open until 3 a.m. They offer several flavors including chocolate chip, snickerdoodle and peanut butter chip. They also make ice cream cookie sandwiches.

Dog Lane Cafe

Dog Lane is a super cozy and cute cafe in Storrs Center. Whether you’re there for coffee or for a meal, you won’t be disappointed. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, often using ingredients from locally sourced farms and vendors. It has that classic cafe vibe that makes it a great place to stay and relax for a bit.

Sgt. Pepperoni

A UConn staple, Sgt. Pep’s offers dine in, take-out, or delivery for their pizza. If you’re not in the mood for an artisanal pizza at Blaze, Sgt. Peps is a great alternative with a more traditional pizza. Open until 2 a.m., it is another great place to satisfy your late night cravings.
