With fall upon us and cooler weather just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to stay indoors and curl up with the device of your choice and watch some Netflix. October will be bringing plenty of new content; from Netflix originals to rom-coms to cult classics, there are around 80 movies and shows being added next month. Highlights include the highly anticipated second season of “Stranger Things,” just in time for Halloween, “Donnie Darko” and “Miss Congeniality.” Here’s your guide to what’s coming and going.
Easily the most anticipated arrival this month, the kids of “Stranger Things” are returning for their second season on Oct. 27. Several other Netflix Originals are premiering, including horror film “The Babysitter” on Oct. 13, comedy sketch “Rodney Carrington: Here Comes The Truth” on Oct. 3 as well as several other shows, films and documentaries.
Several romantic comedies, such as Patrick Dempsey’s “Made of Honor” or Paul Rudd’s “I Love You, Man,” will also arrive. “Must Love Dogs,” starring Diane Lane, will return after previously being removed. “No Reservations,” which follows the life and love story of a top chef in Manhattan, played by Catherine Zeta Jones, after she is given custody of her orphaned niece, will debut on Oct. 1.
Sandra Bullock is winning big this month; her fan-favorite comedy “Miss Congeniality” as well as its sequel “Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous,” will become available Oct. 1. Other comedies including “Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood” and “Talladega Nights” will also be released next month.
There are also many new options for children in the upcoming month. The 2005 remake of the classic “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,” “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” starring Johnny Depp, Beauty-and-the-Beast-esque “Penelope,” the newest Smurf film “Smurfs: The Lost Village” which stars Demi Lovato and the quirky animated film “Meet the Robinsons” will be made available next month. Series such as season one of “LEGO City” and season two of French animated series “Skylanders Academy,” will also be made available in October.
Other additions include Jake Gyllenhaal’s cult classic “Donnie Darko,” Quentin Tarantino’s Academy Award-winning “The Hateful Eight.” Several thrillers including “Eyes Wide Shut” starring Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise, “Blood Diamond” starring Leonardo Dicaprio, “The Survivalist” and “13 Demons” will also be added. New seasons of shows “The Fosters” and “Schitt’s Creek” will be available in October.
With any addition of new titles, Netflix always has to remove some as well. This month is especially rough, as classic, iconic and overall must watch television shows “One Tree Hill,” “Friday Night Lights” and “30 Rock” will all be removed at the start of the month. Other titles leaving include classic romance “Titanic,” “The Shining,” “Family Guy,” “Million Dollar Baby,” “Happy Feet,” “Hellboy” and “Love Actually.”
Spend these last few days of September binge-watching as much as you can to get your Tim Riggins and Nathan Scott fixes in before it is too late!
