(Life/The Daily Campus)
It’s midterm season here at the University of Connecticut, and while many of us are practically living in the library, take a break this weekend with our latest drink recipe, a Tom Collins. We have been meaning to make this drink for some time now because one of our writers absolutely loves Gin and Tonics and this drink is essentially a G and T without the quinine. We had pretty much all the ingredients lying around (except for the simple syrup, which can easily be made), so this drink has the bonus of being inexpensive to make.
Ingredients:
- .75 ounces of lemon juice
- .75 ounces of simple syrup
- One shot of gin
- Seltzer/Club Soda
Combine the lemon juice, simple syrup and gin over ice in a shaker. Shake the ingredients well and pour into a glass over ice. For a more authentic Tom Collins, use a highball glass- but if you don’t have one, any old glass will do. Fill the remainder of the glass with the seltzer and feel free to garnish with lemons or cherries.
As expected, this drink kind of tasted like a sweeter gin and tonic. The simple syrup and lemon juice really come through to make this drink delicious, while the seltzer provides just enough bubbles to keep things interesting.
