In conjunction with Veterans Day, the Mansfield Senior Center Veterans Committee will host a luncheon to honor those who have served in the United States Armed Forces.
The event, titled “Celebrating the Living and Remembering the Fallen, ” will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9 in the Mansfield Community Center.
The event is held to give the public the opportunity to show their appreciation and gratitude to those who have served, Mansfield Senior Center Program Coordinator Cara Webb said.
“Our intent is to honor all individuals who completed a service for any branch of the armed forces in a manner that requires only their presence,” Webb said. “It is simply a way to say thank you by sharing some honored traditions, mingling and getting to know one another and sharing a meal.”
The event will include a social hour from 10 to 11 a.m., the ceremony from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and a luncheon, which will begin at 12 p.m., the event flyer said.
The event is free for Veterans and there is a suggested $10 donation for the public, according to the event flyer. The donation goes directly to covering the expenses of the event, Webb said.
“Since we offer the luncheon free to Mansfield Veterans and their spouses, donations of local businesses as well as donations from those who are joining the event from the general public help to offset the cost so the veterans can enjoy the day without charge,” Webb said.
The event has traditionally been held at the senior center, according to Webb, but due to the senior center’s recent steady growth the event was moved to the community center.
Those who wish to attend the luncheon can RSVP to Webb by Monday, Oct. 30 at WebbCJ@mansfieldct.org or call (860) 487-9872.
