On Oct. 30, 1963, the University of Connecticut’s President at the time, Homer D. Babbidge Jr., had recently announced a 54 percent increase in faculty at UConn. The university had hired 108 new faculty members over the previous year. At this time, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences had over 400 full-time staff members at the Storrs campus.
