Thirsty Thursday: Classic Daiquiri

The daiquiri is a nice, easy, classic cocktail that anyone can make. (Amar Batra/The Daily Campus)

When most people think of a daiquiri, they usually think of summertime and strawberries. While this summer drink is delicious, when the temperature drops it can be nice to drink something that won’t cool you down too much. For this week’s Thirsty Thursday, we have a simple, three ingredient traditional daiquiri recipe that is both classy and refreshing.

Ingredients:

  • Two ounces of rum
  • Half an ounce of simple syrup
  • One ounce of lime juice

Combine the rum, simple syrup and lime juice into a cocktail shaker. Add ice and shake well to combine. Pour into a small glass with or without the ice. If you don’t have simple syrup (or don’t want to spend the money on it) combine one part sugar and one part water in a saucepan, bring to a boil and stir to dissolve the sugar. Any leftover simple syrup can be easily stored in the fridge, so this drink staple is definitely worth making. Our daiquiri was really inexpensive, so it is perfect for any college student on a budget.

Our daiquiri recipe was extremely simple to make. This drink is a classic that is sure to impress your friends with simple sophistication. It can be a bit on the stronger side, so even though it’s usually prepared without the ice, feel free to add some if you want to water it down.
