Thirsty Thursday: College New York Sour

(Via Daily Campus Life Section)

A New York Sour combines sour and sweet to make a classy drink. It’s a play on a whiskey sour, which mixes whiskey with lemon juice and simple syrup.

We’ve made it work for a college budget by supplementing Sprite for the typical lemon juice and simple syrup. Reminder Sprite costs under a dollar. Simple syrup in a bottle costs around six. Sure, you could make your simple syrup with equal parts sugar and water but wouldn’t you rather spend that time drinking?

Adding wine creates an eye-pleasing presentation and a pop of color.

Ingredients

2 oz rye whiskey or bourbon

2 oz Sprite

1 egg white (optional)

1/2 oz red wine

Directions

Put the whiskey, egg white and some ice into a shaker. Shake well and add in ice with glass. Add in Sprite and stir. Carefully add wine over the back of a spoon so it floats on top of the drink. Enjoy the perfect drink to get your protein in before your morning classes.
