In early Feb. 1973, the new bus route in operation was showing success. The shuttle busses traveled to Four Corners, where Route 195 and 44 intersect, and also stopped by on-campus apartments, the Student Union and several lecture buildings.
One driver said the advantages of this new route included the elimination of parking problems on campus, as well as the service itself being free.
The number of people using the service steadily increased, and was not limited to just students. Some drivers also reported driving around university employees as well.
While this new route, also known as the “D” route, seemed to be successful, it was unable to fill to capacity for all trips, according to Hap Gagne, supervisor of the Shuttle bus service.
“One of the route’s drivers attributed the problem to a lack of publicity and the newness of the service,” the Daily Campus reported.
