University of Connecticut commuter students and the Undergraduate Student Government Commuters Union members drafted a proposal in 1987 for more convenient parking spots and an improved shuttle bus service.

Commuter students made up 29 percent of the UConn student population in 1987. Mario Romano, chairman of the Undergraduate Student Government Commuters Union, said students should have a parking space readily available on campus.

The Undergraduate Student Government Commuters Union also called in the proposal for an improved bus service which included transportation to the Ashford and Willington areas.

The proposal requested six new buses, including three to operate the proposed new route and three to replace the aged busses that were in operation at the time.
