Last year, the UConn men’s track and field team left the IC4A Championship victorious. Now, it’s time to repeat.
The team is headed to Boston University this weekend to compete in the three-day Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America (IC4A) Championship. The meet will host an array of colleges and universities looking to fight for the title from March 1-3.
The Huskies came out of the championship on top last year and are hoping to repeat their successes this year. They’re coming off of a bit of a tough week in the American Athletic Conference Championship where they finished sixth, but head coach Greg Roy has confidence that his team will be able to turn it around for the IC4As this weekend.
“Nothing has to change,” Roy said. “We’re just gonna see where everybody’s at and there isn’t much more we can do. Our guys just have to get ready and get excited to run again this weekend.”
The meet will play out over the course of three days, beginning on Friday with the Pentathlon and Heptathlon. Saturday is an all-day event involving trials and some finals races and the meet will wrap up on Sunday, where any finals that were not run on day two will take place.
One Husky to watch will be two-time American Athletic Conference Champion Malik Snead in the triple jump, an event he finished fourth in last year. Now, in his senior year, he is hoping to end his IC4A career on a high note with a top finish to help his team.
Another Husky to watch is sophomore Tyler Gleen in the 800-meter race. He is coming off his first American Athletic Conference victory and a personal best time. He is hopeful to carry that momentum into this weekend’s meet and earn himself another gold medal.
This will be a crucial meet for UConn leading up to the NCAA Championships that start March 8.
