Mercury may be going the right direction again, but April is bringing in a whole new round of retrograding planets. Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto will all start backtracking across the sky this month. These planets may be slow-moving, but their impact can be pretty intense, so as the sun continues pacing through Aries into Taurus, keep track of how these changes may affect you.
Aries (March 21 – April 19): It’s time to make power moves. Mercury and Venus are coming into your sign, and with their combined influence you’ll be ready to take on new challenges, meet new people, let your words work for you so you can impress, engage and entertain.
Taurus (April 20 – May 20): Sometimes things happen on their own: To you, around you, for you. And sometimes you have make things happen. At the beginning of the month the picture will paint itself, but by the end you’ll need to grab a brush. Taurus season is coming, but that doesn’t mean you can just sit back.
Gemini (May 21 – June 20): Everybody says there are two sides to March- the lion and the lamb, but as your ruling planet shifts from low-key Pisces into high-energy Aries, April will be a two-sided month for you as well. You may not really feel much immediate pressure now, but by the time the month is ending, everything will be moving a million miles per hour to the beat of “Another One Bites the Dust” as you stare important decisions in the face.
Cancer (June 21 – July 22): Take the upcoming new moon as an opportunity to restart. If you enter the month with a solid state of mind, you’ll be able to push through anything, retrograding planets or not. This month of change and backwardness may seem rough, but just remember April showers, baby. Mind over matter can make all the difference for you as the other signs are crippled when they can’t do the same.
Leo (July 23 – August 22): The sun is larger and closer than Jupiter and Saturn and Pluto- that doesn’t mean these three bodies can’t take their toll on you. You’re not invincible. It can be really hard for you to be a good person even during a good month, and when three powerful planets are working against you, it doesn’t get any easier. The important thing to remember is that when your friends get mad at you for being a bad person, you can’t blame it on Jupiter being in retrograde.
Virgo (August 23 – September 22): People are so self-consumed sometimes that they totally ignore the needs of the people around them, and you’re tired of being ignored. Your arguments and opinions are overlooked, your decisions labeled arbitrary and your stories never get any laughs. As your ruling planet transitions from peaceful Pisces into argument-arousing Aries, it will give you the oomph to make yourself heard. This month you’re going to get the last word.
Libra (September 23 – October 22): This month you’re going to shift from showing up fashionably late, into the realm of way-too-late-to-be-socially-acceptable. Maybe it’s your car, maybe it’s your alarm clock, maybe it’s your waning motivation and will to be a functioning human being.
Scorpio (October 23 – November 21): This month will be about the slow torture of losing power in small ways. Allergies will take control over your body, professors will switch up the syllabus, technology will slow down when your assignment is due at midnight, the person above you will have loud obnoxious sex all night when you’re trying to sleep. Small things, all of them. But things you can’t control.
Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21): You’ve been pretty lucky lately, but skies will slowly shut that luck-tap down as Jupiter begins inching backwards. Instead of finding heads-up pennies and getting that last spot in D Lot, you’ll arrive at the dining hall just as they put the food away and cope with crashing computer systems. Just remember, life isn’t a game of Go Fish; luck plays a role but it isn’t everything.
Capricorn (December 22 – January 19): You may be enjoying the comforts that Pluto has been providing you with for quite a while now, slowly chipping away at the things you want to change, slowly building the confidence you wish you had. But when the planet goes into retrograde on April 24, these slow and subtle tasks will hit a barrier. You’ll plateau at the gym, in your classes, with your projects and personal life. You may think this is something you can push through like everything else, but keep in mind it’s less about quantity and more about quality. Strategy over strength.
Aquarius (January 20 – February 18): The only planet dropping by your sign this week is the moon. Twice. And that’s not even a real planet. Sometimes it’s nice to know there are planets you can blame when things go wrong or depend on when you need a little help, but other times you can just let the planets be lifeless rocks floating around in space and depend on yourself for a while.
Pisces (February 19 – March 20): Everybody knows the feeling of confidently leaving the dorm in the morning, striding across campus until you realize you left your notes or your charger or your ID card back in your room. Feeling like an idiot, you make an about-face, maybe exaggerating your surprise, or pretending to get a text, in case somebody’s watching. That’s sort of what Mercury looked like as it traveled through your sign this past week. It was confidently making its way through Pisces, then all of a sudden, flipped and started going the other way again. There’s something really important you’re forgetting about, and if you don’t remember soon, you’ll end up making the same move, backtracking to make up for whatever it was you’d ignored.
