Golf Preview: Rutherford Intercollegiate

The UConn golf team will head down to Pennsylvania this weekend to compete in the Rutherford Intercollegiate at Penn State University. The Huskies will be looking to build off a strong finish at the Clemson Invitational that saw them take sixth place out of the 15 team field.

The Rutherford Intercollegiate will take place at the PSU Blue Course on the Penn State campus, and will feature a handful of old Big East rivals (Georgetown, Rutgers, Seton Hall and West Virginia) as a part of the 13 team field.

UConn will send Jimmy Hervol, Nick Harrington, Drake Hull, Jack Boulger and Zach Iannone to compete as a team, while Nick Hampoian will be competing individually.

Hervol is coming off his best performance of the year at Clemson, shooting 8-under par on his first round, which tied a career best, and finishing tied for seventh at 10-under for the tournament. Harrington finished tied for 22nd with 4-under for the weekend, highlighted by nailing a hole-in-one on the 5th hole during his third round.

Hull and Boulger both finished the Clemson Invitational over par, with Hull finishing tied for tied for 33rd with a 1-over and Boulger finishing tied for 42nd with a 3-over. Nick Hampoian will be competing in his first Division I tournament with UConn.

The first round of the Rutherford Intercollegiate will tee off on Saturday April 13 at 7:30 a.m., and the second round will be played later that day. The final round will begin on Sunday, April 14 at 8 a.m.
