UConn’s radio station, WHUS’s, new general manager, Alexandra Urban, said she is excited to have a more active role in the community she loves.
Urban, a sixth-semester accounting major, is currently WHUS’s assistant training director. Since creating an FM show her freshman year, Urban has wanted to be very involved with the organization, she said.
“For my senior year, I just wanted to go for it and see if I could become general manager because WHUS has done a lot for me and I want to give back to the community,” Urban said.
As general manager, she said she would oversee all operations at WHUS and make sure that everything is running smoothly.
“I also serve as a representative of WHUS Radio to all university and community organizations,” Urban said. “I also have to plan, write an agenda for, and chair all meetings of the staff, executive and operations boards. Other than that it’s all just basic ‘president’ duties like dealing with conflicts and overseeing the staff members.”
Urban said she is eager for her new role.
“I’m excited to contribute even more to the station in a different way than I have before, because general manager is such a different role than the ones I’ve had here before,” Urban said. “There’s a lot of projects that we’re going to be working on like studio upgrades that I’m spearheading.”
