At the University of Connecticut, dedicated staff work to guarantee safety and promote student well-being through student resources and programs.
Counseling and Mental Health Services (CMHS) provides clinical services to support students’ emotional, academic and personal needs. Students looking to get low-cost counseling at CMHS can make an appointment for a consultation by phone and walk-ins are welcome Monday through Friday from 1 to 3 p.m.
Student Health Services (SHS) is the place to go for all things doctor-related. Appointments can be made on the phone or on their website, which also provides a list of resources where students can find information and reach out for help. Also available 24/7 is the advice nurse, who is on call to answer questions that don’t require a visit.
Students who want to report a sexual assault can contact SHS’ Sexual Assault Response Team, which is available 24 hours a day. Staff at SHS will work with you and let you know all of your options without any obligation to press charges.
UConn Police is another great resource for emergencies and after-hours assistance.
The Center for Students with Disabilities (CSD) works with students with disabilities, whether they be permanent or temporary. The CSD ensures students with disabilities have the same access to programs and opportunities as all other UConn students.
For academic help, students can start at the W and Q Centers. The Q Center provides tutoring and guidance in all Q courses and the W Center provides tutoring and revision with written pieces. Staff at the centers include students who are majoring in and/or passionate about math and writing. The Q and W Centers are located on the second floor of the Homer Babbidge Library.
Another academic resource is the Academic Achievement Center (AAC), where students can get help developing their personal management skills. Walk-ins are welcomed Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
