The Windham Region Transit District (WRTD) began operations under changed routes last week, according to a recent press release.
“WRTD recently heard public comment on their Schedule and Route Proposal,” the press release said. “They heard some great feedback, considered all the comments and made a few minor changes to create the final schedule.”
Most notably, the Hunting Lodge route has been added to provide service to University of Connecticut students during the school year on weekdays.
According to the UConn Transportation website, this is being done in an effort to help UConn Transportation through a partnership with WRTD so that UConn buses can service other areas of campus. Those taking the Hunting Lodge route are subject to fares of the service, unless they have U-Pass.
This route will begin at 7 a.m. and run until midnight Monday through Thursday and until 10 p.m. Friday. Service will begin at the Mansfield Transportation Center, the updated brochure said. Stops will then include Whitney/East Campus northbound, North Campus, Celeron northbound, Jensen’s, North Campus eastbound, Whitney/East Campus southbound and then the Mansfield Post Office.
A full list of stops and their approximate times can be found in the updated brochure.
Each location will have 23 stops throughout the day on this route with 45 minutes between each pick-up/drop-off time, the brochure said. The last three stops run only Monday through Thursday (10:00 p.m., 10:45 p.m., 11:30 p.m.).
Other routes include Willimantic East (Route 66), Willimantic Central and Storrs to Willimantic, which run Monday through Saturday; Willimantic to Norwich (Route 32), which operates daily; and Willimantic to Danielson, which operates on weekdays, the brochure said.
According to WRTD, updated brochures have been placed in each bus and bus stop to keep riders informed. They are available in English, Spanish and have key parts available in Chinese.
