To whom it may concern:
My name is Sean Rose, and I’m an alumnus of the University of Connecticut (CLAS ‘09). I’m very happy to be able to address you today, and I hope you’re enjoying the beginning of the semester.
Unfortunately, I wish I were addressing you under better circumstances. I feel the need to respond to a letter written the other week by fellow alumnus Stephen Winchell (CLAS ‘08). As you may have noticed, his letter started well enough, with some kindly advice to the current student body to make some “UConn Resolutions” and cherish their time on campus. Nothing wrong with that! But of course, it was a trick, a ruse – just an excuse for Mr. Winchell to prop up the dorm he lived in, West, all while levying a vulgar insult towards the dorm I lived in, Towers. A really cheap, pathetic act, and I’m sorry you all had to witness it.
The truth is that this is not the first time Mr. Winchell has engaged in this chicanery. He’s been sending in letters to the Daily Campus for years after he graduated, trying to get this “West vs. Towers” war going to no avail. The man, quite frankly, is a partisan hack. He’s been trying to sow division within the student body of UConn, to get students who live in different dorms to hate each other, and he has never succeeded. I encourage you, the student body of UConn, to not fall for his tricks this time. To not let this man divide you. To understand that there never has been, nor will there ever be, a “war” between Towers and West.
Because as we all know, Towers is the best dorm on campus, and West is a disgusting smelly trash hole that should have been bulldozed years ago. Towers is a Treasure, and West is a Waste.
Thanks for your time.
