Three weeks after the closing of Connecticut polls, the results of the 2024 general election have been conclusively certified by the Office of the Secretary of the State, according to a Nov. 27 press release.

2025 Inauguration: A closer look

Donald Trump has returned to the White House on Monday, Jan. 20 for a non-consecutive second term, becoming only the second president in U.S. history after Grover Cleveland to achieve such a political comeback. Prior to 1937, inaugurations were held on March 4. Since then, Jan. 20 has been the official date for the transfer of presidential power.

Zohran won: So, now what? 

For many of the members of the American left, this past Tuesday night was a celebration the likes of which has been a long time coming. Zohran Mamdani’s victory in the New York City mayoral election seemed to ring out across the entire country, signaling the beginning of something new. It’s a new hope, perhaps, or a return to previous highs felt during the 2020 era.

Vote blue no matter who? 

It’s a phrase you hear in almost every major election. “Vote blue no matter who” is the default response, it seems, to any criticism of Democratic candidates and policies or suggestion that our votes may be better directed towards a third-party candidate. For the most part, it’s good advice.

In our public consciousness, there is a stereotypical impression of the “young voter.” Ranging from the ages of 18 to 29, both political parties court these voters, but they typically lean liberal and toward the Democratic Party, especially at colleges like UConn.

UConn Hartford’s final ‘Dean’s Series’ covers post-election actions 

The third and final installment of the “Dean’s Series on University and Society” was held on Thursday, Nov. 7, at the Hartford Public Library. The conversation was regarding post-election actions. Many questions were asked, such as how this election impacted people, their families and communities. 

Media consultant speaks on ad relevance in political campaigns 

The University of Connecticut’s Political Media class welcomed guest speaker J. Toscano on Thursday, Nov. 7, to discuss how media is used in elections. Toscano is a founding partner of Backstory Strategies, a political media consulting group that has helped to create numerous political advertisements.

In the early morning on Wednesday, Nov. 6, the results of the 2024 presidential election were announced. Despite a close race, Republican nominee and former President Donald Trump defeated Democratic nominee and Vice President Kamala Harris to become the nation’s 47th president.
