On the night of Tuesday, April 16, Connecticut State Police responded to an incident in which a female student was hit by a vehicle on Route 195 outside of Buckley and Shippee Residence Halls. The vehicle was headed northbound when the accident occurred. The student was crossing the crosswalk at the time of the incident and was transported to Hartford Hospital as a precaution, where they were later treated for minor injuries. According to a Connecticut State Police Report, the operator of the vehicle did not see the pedestrian at the time of the incident, nor were the crosswalk lights flashing.
According to University of Connecticut spokesperson Stephanie Reitz, since the incident is under the jurisdiction of Connecticut State Police, the university police department provided support at the scene, but was not the agency in charge.
