What to know about this year’s spring weekend

Earth Day Spring Fling is an annual celebration of sustainability co-sponsored by UConn’s Office of Sustainability and the Dept. of Dining Services. The festival features vendors of sustainable and hand-crafted goods, organic and local foods, environmental organizations, and student groups that come together along Fairfield Way. Each year, the University of Connecticut hosts a Spring Weekend celebration for students to enjoy.

This year’s Spring Weekend, executed by the Student Union Board of Governors, begins today and lasts through Saturday.

There are a variety of events happening this afternoon, including a bubble soccer tournament, free Kona Ice, a standup magician, a movie showing and more.

All the event times, locations and other details can be found online.

To kick off the first night of Spring Weekend, SUBOG will be having former MLB manager Joe Girardi host a night of fun at the Jorgenson Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets are required for this event and can be claimed online as well.

Friday morning will begin with a guided meditation on the great lawn, followed by a cupcake celebration, cornhole tournaments, laser tag and a pottery painting session.

Later tomorrow afternoon, there will be a hot dog food truck giving out free food, a cherry blossom festival, bingo and more.

Comedy trio Please Don’t Destroy will be visiting Storrs tomorrow night to perform in Jorgenson.

And on Saturday, UConn’s infamous OOzeball tournament will occur, this year with a Barbie theme.

Additionally, there will be pet therapy, a Black arts gala and a food truck festival Saturday afternoon.

Many of these events are while supplies last, so make sure to check out the Spring Weekend website to ensure that you know when and where each event begins.
